GTIN check on a part
Short operator path: when you create or edit a part, validate the GTIN from packaging and use returned data to set a consistent category. For classification standards, FAQ, and deeper notes, use the full GTIN check & categories guide.
Overview
GTIN check helps you confirm a barcode number looks valid and, when the item is recognised, suggests category details for the scheme your workspace chose at onboarding (GPC, UNSPSC, or custom). PartLogic does not guarantee a correct GTIN for every item—always confirm against the physical product before you save.
How operators use this on a part
- Open Parts and create a new record, or edit an existing master. You can also reach Create from Parts Uploader on an unlinked row.
- Enter the GTIN from the label or packaging into the GTIN field (and related barcode fields if your form shows them).
- Run the GTIN check / validation control on the part edit screen. Confirm the format is valid, then apply suggested category information when it matches the product.
- Save the part, then re-check the Data Quality card on Summary—invalid GTIN or unassigned category often appear there (see Data quality).
If you do not have a GTIN yet
Search and select a category manually under Primary Group / category fields. Type a few letters so the dropdown narrows, then pick one option that matches the product.
Classification was chosen at onboarding
Your workspace already picked GPC, UNSPSC, or custom categories during setup. Operators normally cannot switch that standard later from day-to-day screens—see the FAQ on the full guide if you need a secondary taxonomy via custom attributes.
